Stoicism is an enduring and ancient philosophy, celebrated by the Romans, foundational to Christianity and admired by Shakespeare. Today, therapists and politicians alike will profess adherence to the Stoic creed. 1. Extraordinary misrepresentation of Jordan Peterson and his attitude to emotions in men, when he is regularly brought to tears when discussing the philosophical ideas he values.

  2. For me, the most interesting part of this show was the way Tom brought to life famous philosophers from the ancient world. They were living, breathing, flawed people, very much of their time. He’s right that philosophy is now very much viewed as an ivory tower activity, not a living discipline accessible to ordinary people.

  3. I was disappointed and stopped listening about half way through. Other than a very brief Cliff Notes intro to some of the personages I did not garner any understanding of what stoicism actually is let alone how to live like one. Also, I was unable to hear the questions put to Mr. Hodgkinson.

  4. I lasted 5 minutes on line before switching off. I’m so glad I gad not paid for a ticket as I’d have had to walk out. I offer this as sincere constructive criticism. If every other sound from your mouth whilst public speaking is “uuhhmm” then you might benefit from a vocal coach. Once noticed I couldn’t get beyond extremely irritating “uuhhmm” utterances every few seconds.
