In this episode of The Econoclasts, Yanis Varoufakis and Wolfgang Munchau debunk the orthodox view that the newly established U.S. dollar swap lines for Gulf states are a charitable bailout for the Middle East, arguing instead that these facilities are a desperate signalling mechanism designed to bail out the American financial system and the petrodollar recycling machine, as the escalating war in Iran threatens to permanently dismantle U.S. economic hegemony.
As ever , the iconoclasts – and the chatterati like us on here – debate matters that are a few inches away from our space.
The galloping elephant bearing down on us is nuclear. How can tiny Israel survive a single bomb ? They must act first or be obliterated.
One day it will happen . The world will change utterly. Only the strong will survive.
I wonder if Unherd will allow my comment.
Well, “tiny Israel” seems to be expanding at quite a pace. It has for all of my lifetime. I guess we must support those poor, suffering israeli settlers ransacking arab homes and olive groves in the west bank, too? Oops! I meant judea and samaria…
I am not saying you are wrong. But I am saying that Israel has the bomb and see little support from a site like Unherd. They are watching and are influenced by comments like yours. Are you sure you want to do this ?
