In this episode of The Econoclasts, Yanis Varoufakis and Wolfgang Munchau dissect Keir Starmer’s attempts to maintain power in a declining UK economy alongside the paradoxical surge in US market wealth triggered by Donald Trump’s war with Iran – a conflict that is failing to smoke out Tehran while simultaneously enriching a narrow elite of tech lords and fracking independents at the expense of the global working class.
The ‘global working class’! WOW!
😀 – yes, can we now expect a ‘global revolution’ from ‘below’, orchestrated by the UN? Ahhh, the ever-evasive dream from the self-proclaimed Leftist intelligencia of a post-national, borderless, ‘inclusive’ new world order, dictated by the ‘Global South’ and ushered in by the ‘global working class’. Word of advice: read Animal Farm first.
If you are reading comments as an intro, you should know that Janice reckons:
“He supplied weapons and intelligence to the Israeli government during its pursuit of the genocide in Gaza.”…..
“He threw out mayors from North England simply because they didn’t believe in the pursuit of genocide in Gaza”
Whether Unherd will allow this comment to appear is another matter
Note to Unherd:
Would it be possible to allow Wolfgang to get a word in ? Varufakis raves away with TDS and genocide , that’s fine. This is Unherd after all. But Wolfgang has sane and useful things to say.
This kind of smooth blather by an economist and a journalist (the Dismal Science describes what they do and their vain attempts to throw a net around things moving too fast to know what actually happened until years after, if even then) is always entertaining. It is like watching the old tobacco auctioneers who spoke 460 words a minute. “I got a bid, five, five, five, dollar-bid, now six, six, will you give me six? And a six, six, six, dollar-six, now seven…”
