I saw those videos and I could tell in an instant the fake Yannis Varoufakis wasn’t the real Yanis Varoufakis. It didn’t look like Varoufakis at all. But the dead giveaway is that the fake Varoufakis didn’t mention cloud (soft ‘d’) capital even once, and the real Varoufakis could never do that. Also,
the fake Varoufakis is far less annoying and flatulently verbose than the real Varoufakis, so another giveaway.

Look Freddie, I think you may have been taken in here, and in fact your guest is a fake Yannis Varoufakis, while the *real* Yannis Varoufakis is being held captive in a magical basement, stunned, like Professor Moody. You should immediately inform the Australian and Greek police, and make an attempt to uncover the true identities here. It would be no good asking the esteemed Ma Varoufakis, I imagine she tuned out from listening to her progeny decades ago, as the only way to save her sanity from an incessant Marxist stream-of-consciousness droning. The only way I can see is that we let this potentially fake Varoufakis participate in a few shows with Wolfgang Munchau, and I feel sure Wolfgang will be able to tell with his specialist economist tests, like Deckard could tell in Bladerunner.

And a slam dunk. Because if it’s just to be decided on the “merits of the argument”, then I for one will take the fake Varoufakis over the real one.
I would say Unherd’s recent article by Ryan Zickgraf (2025, the year we took the red pill) is presicent, or at least timely.
People are starting to tune out of the internet precisely because of the blatant monetization described in this interview, a monetization that really doesn’t care about the authenticity/quality of the content, provided it generates revenue for youtube etc.
We’ve all been lied to once too often.
In summary then, we will all have to go to pubs and wine bars and start talking to verifiably real people again. Hooray !
It seems questionable to me whether even the ‘elite’ are capable of discerning ‘high quality information’, given the evidence of the last few years.
Whilst correctly identifying the problem of swathes of mis/disinformation within the media cycle, politicians and mainstream media seem no better than the next man at picking the wheat from the chaff.
This has resulted in irrational and destructive policies during the Covid era, and with the still ongoing folly of Net Zero.
He’s making more fuss than is warranted. I noticed Musk and Mearsheimer were getting this treatment about 3 weeks ago. Both are easily seen through by anyone with a little grey matter, though there were still loads of earnest comments showing many had been taken in. The backgrounds looked contrived and Mearsheimer was shown against the background of a typical academic’s office but wore an immaculate shirt and tie and looked 20 years younger. I’ve seen one of the Varoufakis AI look alike and again they’re easily seen through – real humans speak like real humans, but AI humans, at least so far, speak too perfectly. Methinks Freddie and Varis are over-reacting.
